i'm thinkin of dying my dirty blonde hair black. but lemme see if u can picture me. im pretty pale, like a whole skin tone underneath "normal" tan i guess. and im worried i'd look wierd with black hair, and my eyebrows are blondeish brownish so im afraid it'd look dumb.

There are several issues to consider. 1st how bleached is your hair. all hair must have at least a pale yellow to the color in order for any color to deposit into it. 2nd, if you are going back to a more natural color, you would need to determine just how dark is your natural color, someone at sallys can help you determine the level of darkness your natural color is. There are some pitfalls to be aware of, stay away from anything that says, Ash, or blue/violet base as these will turn you the prettiest shades of green/brown. You will need to look for colors that have the base colors of gold or yellow/orange, yes these will give you a golden to a reddish brown color but that is far more natural than green. As far as buying the color at a store, that is a NO NO NO. if you must do it yourself, always go for the professional color at sallys. You will need to use a 10 volume peroxide with it so you can get the optimum deposit of color. If I had to chose a color brand at sallys I would choose clariol. Hope I have helped you will your color correction. AS with all question asked of me about hair, via the net or over the phone, I am not resposible for the outcome or results. If you have a look at the hair colourants you can buy in stores most of them have colour charts on the back. Most charts show if you are blonde and going to dye brown it is not recommended and it doesn't even show you an after pic of what it could look like. (probably because it would go wrong)

You can go brown but go to a proper salon and get it done. That way if anything goes wrong you wouldn't have to pay to get it fixed.

IF you do not have other color on your hair the red can be done with a red hair color. Depending on how vibrant you want them I would either lighter prior or not. If you want stop sign red I would lighten before. Then apply the Manic Panic or Special Effects. Kool aid was before we had such cool options. If you want a less dramatic color, more natural you can find that at any supply store.

I have used it on brown hair --it is very good as you can see your hair getting lighter after 10 minutes. However you must make sure you get it on evenly as you could end up with some slightly gingery bits.

If you use it too often it does burn and damage your hair as do all bleach formula's.

If you do use it and you have some ginger or brown still showing just get another one and do the bits required after a day or two unless it's too noticeable then do it again straight away as a little extra on the missed bits won't hurt.

Its not going to be easy, and will take some time, but wash it every night in a good dandruff shampoo, like Head and Shoulders (get teh conditioner too and don't over dry it), dandruff shampoo strips colour, but only to a point. Also, I think the hairdresser Daniel Galvin actually does a colour stripper with Vitamin C, it used to be available at larger Boots stores but I don't know if it still is. The alternative is to save up and get it done professionally, but the more you wash it in head and shoulders, the more it will come out. Be really careful about trying to dye it back, hair that dark goes through a colour change process, from black to dark brown, to red, to orange to yellow and then finally blonde, but bleaching is really bad for you and may not get it all out, resulting in that awful orangey-yellow look. Don't even think of putting a blonde colour on it, it won't work. If you can find a college that will accept you as a model, tis not a bad idea as although they are (well trained) students, they are supervised by highly trained and qualified tutors. Good luck.

I would purchase Wella speedlite bleach and use 40 volume creme peroxide (you will have to leave it on less time w/40) and put it on the darkened part of your hair. usually the problem with blond hair turing green is most people use ash on thier hair. when dyeing your hair back to a darker shade you need to use a golden color to put the natural gold back in your hair. for example, you want to dye your hair light brown, you want to buy a light warm brown or a natural ligt brown. you may not need to leave the color on your hair for the full time it says to, because lightened hair tends to grab color and go darker than what you want. i reccomend using loreal or revlon if buying over the counter products.

You can get semi-perm hair color, which is much gentler on your hair and will wash out in 6-8 weeks. You will want to use good shampoo and conditioner with your hair. As for if it will look good--- not so sure.

It all depends on your facial complex. If you're fair skinned I wouldn't go that dark it'll make you look washed out. If you're tanned I would think a deep chestnut brown would look best because you can and will look pretty damn good with blonde hilights. I would go hilights not streaks. It looks nicer to have one colour tone then lighten it a bit instead of doing it the other way around. I have somewhat red hair, it's kinda darker underneath and in the summertime it's dark underneath with strawberry blonde hilights I don't even have to get it done professionally. You can go get hair dye that washes out quickly and experiment with it, or getting it done correctly with a professional who knows what they're doing. But the down side is that it can be somewhat expensive...

Long faces definitely don't need long straight non-layered hair hanging around them to emphasize the long-ness of it all! Most girls with really long hair are afraid to chop it so if you've got the guts, I say find a look you like in a magazine and go for it. Think of Alanis Morrisette before and after her chop!

Highlights are an option to consider rather than dying your whole head. Subtle highlights can be done with lemon juice (and then go sit in the sun for a little bit) or a product like Sun-In. These highlights are permanent. Glazes are always great if you need shine but might not make much difference with the color on "virgin" hair. A step above a glaze would be a non-permanent hair color, which is best used to darken rather than lighten.

For a first time dye job, I'd go to a professional. Your hair might be slightly damaged - it depends on who you ask. I would say try getting really light highlights! Highlights are VERY in and extremely noticeable too. And they're much safer and easier on your hair. Any coloring will damage your hair, but it will grow out or wash out depending on what permanence level you decide on. Temporary ones wash out in about a month or so gradually, so maybe try one of them first to see how you like it.

Layers can add more fullness to your face. They should be varying lengths around your face. Try a style where the lengths fall at least around your cheekbones and chin. Then each layer after that should be about the same difference in length until you get to the longest part of your hair. The more lengths you add, the more volume you can give your hair and fullness to your face. Shorter hairstyles can add maturity to your face, so you might want to stick with medium to long styles.

i have had my hair almost every color imaginable (right now i am bleach blond with red, black and blue streaks!), and i was also in the same perdicament you are in. you should get your hair stripped of color before you do any other color...a proffessional salon can do it, but it can get expensive, almost $200, or there's a product called Color Oops! which is a lot cheaper. depending on how many layers of false color you have, you might need two boxes of the product. then, i would wait a few days to a week so your hair isnt straw feeling, then dye it proffessionally starting with your natural color and getting darker... because it is easier to go darker than lighter... it does less damage. i am also naturally dirty blonde, so i know where your coming from. just one piece of advice... Do Not bleach your hair first... that color you want will come out bright neon orange, ive done it before! also, if you dont want to get it done proffessionally, i recomend herbal essences. your not just buying the name brand, but its extra gentle on your hair, since your putting it under a lot of stress to get it to that color...it will still feel soft, not rough after.

i am a profesional hairdresser and the best advice i can give you is go to a salon but DO NOT go into a salon telling your hairdresser which peroxide or colour to use. just tell her/him what outcome you would like and ask if it is possible. pick a salon which is popular and by that i mean one that is known through word and mouth, dont think the more expensive it is the better it will be, you normally only get charged extra for the salon to look posh. if you do go ahead and do it yourself i can guarantee the outcome will be orange and the only solution would be to dye your hair back to dark brown and your hair could possibly be to damaged then to put your hi lites back through.
